Shells are in colour and I am playing around with backgrounds.....what do you think?

Hi Everyone....

I am always fascinated about how much a background can change an illustration....something so simple as a different colour or tone can add so much or sometimes even take away from a piece....so today I finished adding some colour to my shell illustrations and decided to show you how much fun it can be playing around with backgrounds....I could honestly go on and on with this fun little exercise .....this is also something we do when we work on surface designs for art licensing.....oftentimes you may have the same design in a variety of colours to meet the needs of all of the consumers....so what do you think? what is your favorite background here........

 I love shells and I think my favorite background is the first one and the fourth one....it highlights the shells and I immediately think of the beach when I look at them......

Illustration Friday - "Diary" and a week at the Beach....

It's great to be back on-line after a wonderful week filled with inspiration and great times at the beach! This week I see that IF has "diary" as a theme and after days at the beach....this is what came to my mind....silly I know...but that is what water, sun and fun can do to you! I have to catch up with you all this week.... I feel so behind and can't wait to see what you all have been blogging about.....

This is an outdoor art piece I made years ago for our cottage at the beach....and after much aging I redid the paint....These seagulls still make me smile even after years!!! I made these so long ago!!!

and this is my little place on the beach where I did some work on my latest picture book....now who wouldn't be inspired by this....

Share Saturday...some fun photos....

I am often drawn to the water...and all the wonder it brings...the sound of the waves , the seagulls, and the peacefulness of walking and enjoying some inspirational scenery....We always walk at the beach and when I forget my sketch pad I use rocks as my paper...and even do some fun pieces...Cole has been into his abstract watercolours lately and this is his latest piece...he usually sticks with only a few colours...but this time he went all out!!!
