Theme Thursday - Girls and Candy Apples

Hi Everyone....When I saw the prompt over at Theme Thursday I instantly thought about these cute best friends that were at the fair in my last promo...so I took them and made them new again. They are best friends and they are sharing a sweet moment together....

The one thing I love about fall fairs is the yummy treats....and I always try way too much and need a bottle of the pink stuff when I get home...but it is so much fun....I picked candy apples for these friends...a little healthy and a lot of sweet......

Hope you're having a sweet day!!!

and if you have some apples around you can make these....

Candy Apples

Courtesy of Michael Smith - Chef at Home

Ingredients
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 cups corn syrup
  • Large pinch cinnamon
  • Few drops red food colouring
  • 12 Honey Crisp apples
  • 12 popsicle sticks
Directions
  1. Pour the water, sugar and corn syrup into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring to a boil. Continue to boil until the mixture reaches 290 degrees on a candy thermometer. This will take 20 minutes or so. Stir in the cinnamon and food coloring, and pour the hot mixture into a large bowl set over a large pot of simmering water. This will help it stay hot and make it easier to work with as you dip apples.
  2. Pierce the bottom of each apple with a Popsicle stick, then dip into the syrup and roll until fully coated. Repeat with the remaining apples. Rest on a parchment-lined baking sheet until they harden.

and I just can't get this song out of my head....

I love seeing all that you are doing with your work lately. The textures you are adding and creating more of a 3D atmosphere is really interesting. And of course, you never fail to disappoint with adding a touch of SWEET! =)

Hi Diana,

Love the painting of friends eating their toffee apples.
Thanks for the recipe - I enjoy watching the Chef at home and used to also watch him when he was - The Chef at large.

I hope that you are having a great week
Hugs

What bottle of pink stuff? Pink lemonade?

As you know anything related to best friendship celebration is my favorite. I think a best friend is the greatest blessing and gift.

I love eating the grilled corn on the husk at the fair but I am so afraid I may break my teeth. I love cotton candy ---- oooh that is pink!

Diana, you are so amazing - a brilliant artist, a great writer, and now a cook to boot! I love your girls at the fair. At least the apples are better for you than fried butter (never had any of that myself).

great art, tee hee we call them 'toffee apples' on this side of the pond, don't ask me why- there is no toffee involved!

Oh Diana, I like that you try to protect your lipstick! I have learned to eat and keep my lipstick at the same time. There's an art to it. It involves using the tongue a lot.

Very cute! I love fair time and candy apples. We like to go up to Greenbluff, an area north of us, where a lot of farmers live, and get caramel apples in the fall. I have yet to try their candy apples because the caramel ones are so good, but I may have to try your recipe! (and Honey Crisps are my favorite!) :)
