Theme Thursday - Girls and Candy Apples

Hi Everyone....When I saw the prompt over at Theme Thursday I instantly thought about these cute best friends that were at the fair in my last promo...so I took them and made them new again. They are best friends and they are sharing a sweet moment together....

The one thing I love about fall fairs is the yummy treats....and I always try way too much and need a bottle of the pink stuff when I get home...but it is so much fun....I picked candy apples for these friends...a little healthy and a lot of sweet......

Hope you're having a sweet day!!!

and if you have some apples around you can make these....

Candy Apples

Courtesy of Michael Smith - Chef at Home

Ingredients
  • 2 cups water
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 cups corn syrup
  • Large pinch cinnamon
  • Few drops red food colouring
  • 12 Honey Crisp apples
  • 12 popsicle sticks
Directions
  1. Pour the water, sugar and corn syrup into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring to a boil. Continue to boil until the mixture reaches 290 degrees on a candy thermometer. This will take 20 minutes or so. Stir in the cinnamon and food coloring, and pour the hot mixture into a large bowl set over a large pot of simmering water. This will help it stay hot and make it easier to work with as you dip apples.
  2. Pierce the bottom of each apple with a Popsicle stick, then dip into the syrup and roll until fully coated. Repeat with the remaining apples. Rest on a parchment-lined baking sheet until they harden.

and I just can't get this song out of my head....

Theme Thursday - Flowers...one of my favorite plants...orchids....

Hi Everyone....

The prompt over at Theme Thursday this week is "flowers" and one of my favorite plants is the orchid...I mainly grow these from the Phalaenopsis family...and one of my favorite is the Sogo Yukidian...the colours are amazing and they are super easy to maintain...and who doesn't love a plant that has flowers for 9 months out of the year....mine blooms every January and lasts till October....and all it needs is some soakings in water once and a while...

This piece is all about the Sogo Yukidian....it's colours...it's textures...

I also thought my flower art stamps are perfect for the theme!!!

Have a wonderful Thursday!!!

Theme Thursday "numbers" and more of Cole's fun work....

Hi Everyone....I painted another cupcake ....this one is all about texture and dimension...The theme this week on Theme Thursday is "numbers" and this is titles "one" just a lonely cupcake....ready to make someone smile..... Cole also worked on a new watercolour....

We also worked yesterday making a ton of special recipe breakfast patties....I love these....we ground the meat at my Mom and Dad's and made them there ....I worked with them and we made a lot of yummy patties...and these are extra lean and tasty with all the spices we put in....I am a fan of breakfast sausage...but needed an alternative way to get the taste without the calories...and I finally have a recipe I love.....
Cole has some cool techniques with his paintings....now he is all about circles at the start.....

Then he says he has to fill all the holes....(he calls the white spaces on the paper holes)

and once it is all dry this is the magic that happens.....I always think he uses way too much water....but the effects he gets are so neat....
Have a wonderful day!!!

Theme Thursday - Christmas Holiday Creations - my new paper city scape on the mantle....

Hi Everyone....I started my Holiday decorations this week...and I usually go all out with the totally traditional reds and greens...but this year I decided to do everything a little different...so since I'm dreaming of a White Christmas I decided to go all white and crisp this year...

The first thing I tested was my mantle...It all started with some feathers and pearl berries....and then today I thought a cool white village would look neat....As I moved some of my art from the mantle I decided to create a cityscape instead of a bunch of houses...and this is what I did....
I took white and black card stock and bent a thin edge on each side first. Then folded 4 interior blocks exact in size minus the thin edges that will re-enforce the forms...I then glued these together with double sided tape....cut them to make some varying heights and then embellished them.....

to embellish I added windows using stickles...glitter glue...and these are so pretty at night....tomorrow I will add some lights behind the feather snow scape and it will come to life even more....
I even added my statue of Liberty .....so even though I love living out in wonderful spacious land...I still enjoy the city...and this scene reminds me of New York at Christmas....
I wish these would turn out like they look in real life...the little city scape is so so cute and these photos just don't do it justice....I am submitting these to Theme Thursday....the theme this week is Christmas Holiday Creations and this is what I worked on and wanted to share with you....
Sending Warmest Wishes to all of my wonderful friends in the United States as they celebrate Thanksgiving!!! Happy Thanksgiving Friends!!!!
Happy Thursday!!!

Theme Thursday - Vintage Valentine

Hi Everyone....

I needed a little break from all the book illustrating today so I took 5 minutes to come up with a design for Theme Thursday.....this is my first time at Theme Thursday....and the theme is "Vintage Valentine"

I did some freehand heart cutouts and embossed them with a gift from my husband...my new cuttlebug....I then added a vintage image from

The Vintage Moth ( free images daily for mixed media artists)

Added all the pieces to my card....then added my favorite sparkles with stickles.....
and voila....a vintage valentine in no time....
